Waikiki Spam Jam 2013

Blog Category:  ,

It's that time again...Spam Jam Waikiki, held this Saturday, April 27th, from 4-10pm. We all know that Spam has earned a negative reputation over the years, but here in Hawaii, we hold a special place for Spam in our hearts, homes and most often, our tummies!

It's not just local people in Hawaii that take Spam seriously...Spam is sold in 41 countries and on six continents. There is even a Spam Museum and Spam parades held across the US. Undeniably however, the most passionate showcase of Spam takes place at the 11th Annual Spam Jam in Waikiki. You may have heard that in the South they will fry anything, but here in Hawaii, we will Spam Anything! From Spam nachos to Spam popsicles, this fun festival features Spam in almost any variation you can imagine.

We know you might be intimidated, but trust us, you have to give Spam a try. Spam has even made culinary converts out of highly acclaimed pallets like Anthony Bourdain, who's come to admit that he likes Spam musubi. This fist sized spam sushi of sorts is held especially dear to locals...and it also happens to be sold exclusively at our Shops of Hawaii booth this year at Spam Jam! We will be featuring the traditional Spam musubi, Terriyaki Spam musubi, Spam musubi with garlic rice, and Katsu Spam musubi.

Look for the Shops of Hawaii tent near our Coco Cove location where we'll be live-tweeting from our twitter account: @ShopsofHawaii. We'll also be featuring Musubi themed Reusable Bags, Beach Towels, and T-Shirts from our good friends at Foodland Hawaii, so we hope you'll join us on Saturday!
