A Hawaiian Blessing of our New Store

Blog Category:

On a spectacular October morning in beautiful Princeville, Kauai , our company recently celebrated the grand opening of a new Accents store at the St. Regis Princeville Resort with a traditional Hawaiian blessing conducted by Kahu Mokihana Powers of Kapaa First Hawaiian Church. Noting the strong sense of family among the Accents staff and the important legacy of the Sullivan Family of Companies in Hawaii, Kahu Powers highlighted three key elements for success in the store operation:

Aloha-reflection of a way of life, an attitude.
Ohana-meaning family in an extended sense of the term. The concept emphasizes that an ohana is bound together and members must cooperats and remember on another.
Ho’oponopono-to set things right. At the end of each day an ohana must clear the air and clear up any misunderstandings or bad feelings.

After reading Hawaiian prayers, the kahu cleared the space of any kapu (taboos) so that the new occupants could move forward with a clean slate. Salt water was sprinkled by the kahu on the space and the staff involved in the new store as a ceremonial cleansing of impurities. Finally, a maile lei, made from a plant sacred to Hawaiians, was untied at the store entrance officially opening the store for business.

It’s our hope that our newest Accents store will be an important part of the guest experience at the St. Regis Princeville Resort. Accents features island-inspired gifts, hand crafted items, one-of-a kind jewelry, distinctive resort wear for men and women, made-in-Hawaii gourmet foods as well as snacks, beverages and sundries. More important however is the warm and gracious service guests will experience from our store ohana headed by Store Manager, Serra Dorozan.
