Blog Category:

If you’re looking for a fun, enjoyable and relaxing hike on Oahu, you might want to try Jackass Ginger in Nuuanu Valley. Begin on the Judd Memorial Trail – named for Dr. Gerrit P. Judd, missionary and advisor to Hawaiian royalty. There bamboo, eucalyptus, pine, and guava trees will surround you as you experience and enjoy Hawaii’s natural beauty. A side path will lead you to Jackass Ginger, a great swimming hole that is about eight feet deep. It is said that Hawaiian royalty used to sit on ti leaves around the pond and gaze at the ten-foot waterfall. You’ll want to use the rope swing to jump into the refreshing cool water just like we locals do. Information on how to reach Jackass Ginger and the Judd Memorial Trail may be found at Trails.com. Remember that the trail can be damp and muddy so wear old shoes and don’t forget your mosquito repellent!
